So I've been considering a way to enable more customization and decision making in regards to characters and machines on the forum. One idea that came to me is the Feats system from Dungeons and Dragons. After a certain number of missions, a character can pick up a new feat to improve their abilities for certain actions, attacks, or maneuvers. To expand upon this, I also intend to replace the Specialization system with this.
Currently, I'm planning that every 4 missions, a pilot may pick up a new Feat. Feats will cap out at 6 per character, giving plenty of room for customization. Feats cannot be stacked. Meaning you cannot gain the same feat multiple times.

Maneuver/Action Feats
Maneuver:
- Close the Gap: The character is skilled at gauging distance, environment, and particular maneuvers designed to close the distance between themselves and the enemy as quickly has possible. Provides a +2 bonus to Close Distance/Charge actions.
- Tactical Retreat: The character is skilled at gauging distance and particular maneuvers designed to keep distance between themselves and enemies. Provides a +2 bonus to Disengage actions.
- Hidey Hole: The character is better skilled in surveying the battlefield and finding appropriate locations to conceal themselves from attack. Adds +2 to Take Cover actions.
Action:
- Transformation: May transform as a free action once per turn and transformed stats are applied immediately.
- Coordination: Up to three times per battle, the pilot may coordinate with up to two allies, increasing their accuracy and critical range by +1 or coordinate with a single ally for +2. This bonus only apples if the pilots perform the suggested action and is otherwise wasted if they ignore or are otherwise unable to perform it.
- Protector: Gain a +2 Redirection, Parry, or Interception bonus when rolling to protect someone else.
Give or Take Feats
- Hit and Run: After a successful attack, gain 1 ER for the next round. If the attack was a miss, lose 1 ER instead.
Terrain Feats

- Bomber: +1 accuracy when attacking ground targets from the air.
- Anti-Air: Gain +1 accuracy when shooting at flying enemies from the ground. Only applies to ranged weapons.

- Outrage: When a comrade suffers a critical hit, confirmed or otherwise, the pilot with this feat may become outraged. For either the next two rounds or until the next hit, the pilot gains +2 accuracy and +1 critical range. The pilot must be aware of their allies harm. The ability activates by choice, not automatically. This feature has a 3 turn cool down period.
- Lucky: Once a battle the character can undo a fumble and roll again. If another fumble is rolled, it is negated. Roll must be marked "Luck invoked". Alternatively, the character can negate one critical hit made against them, allowing it to be redirected. A confirmed crit will still deal bonus damage.
