Some pilots feel they are the truest masters of their machine. That their skill is unparalleled with it. Mastery Challenges are where they put their money where their mouth is.
A Mastery Challenge is simple. You face off in the arena a mobile suit of the same model as the one your pilot is presently using. Both machines will be refitted with their canonical load out. In the event of multiple possible load outs, a basic load out will be selected and provided by the challenge administrator. Both machines will be base model, no upgrades beyond what is native to the mobile suit itself.
For example, your pilot uses a RGM-79 GM as their mobile suit. If they seek Mastery, they will also be facing a RGM-79 GM. Both mobile suits will have the traditional load out of a melee weapon, a gun, an artillery weapon, and a shield. As the GM has a wide variety of gear it can use, the pilot may request certain weapons from the selection. No matter what, the selection will always be mirrored by the opponent MS. No upgrades to either the weapons or the machine. It will all come down to how you use what you are given.
Note: The enemy machine will mirror the pilot's stats and modifiers except in cases where the modifier is negative, in which case the enemy machine will have a 0 modifier.
Should you prove yourself victorious in the battle, your character will earn "Mastery" of that mobile suit. Mastery applies a +1 bonus to all actions (but not stats!) while using that specific model of mobile suit. Mastery with a GM will not translate to a GM II and changing to a new suit means Mastery must be earned again, even if it is a variant suit. This applies to all other versions of MS.
Furthermore, Mastery with machines with locked special abilities, usually Gundams but not always, will have those abilities unlocked for use. For example, the Trans-Am System in the 3rd Generation AD Gundams. In other cases it might enhance abilities already available, bringing out their full potential.
Price of Admission for Mastery Challenges is 150 x Tier. If the MS is a variant/upgrade option of a previously mastered MS, the price of admission is halved. The pilot must have a minimum of 3 victorious battles with their machine before they can qualify for Mastery. This includes arena victories.
All Mastery Challenge applications should be submitted in a reply below, along with the character name and MS/MA model used.
Only one Mastery Challenge allowed per month per character.
Successful Mastery Challenges will pay out the same as a regular arena fight.
All Mastery Challenges will be hosted here: mssagashattered.proboards.com/board/233/mastery-challenges
